Cabo Chic AMA Designs by Sonia Falcone at the Auberge Hotel, Playa Chileno Bay, in San José del Cabo, November 2020, was a great success, with contributions by participating Mexican designers Gregorio Sánchez and Daniel Espinosa, as well as the collaboration of two talented North American fashion figures, Tyler Ellis and Wendy Harrison.

The glamourous event was attended by friends of AMA Saving The Oceans Foundation like Frederic Vidal, Debora Straine, Evelyn Montero, Elizabeta Galimberti, Luciano Ginocchio, Mauricio Cazares, Dr Will Hoskyns, Emmanuelle Cisneros, Abel Solano, Kory Straine, Angela Eduards, Juan Eduardo Alonso Cortez, the Director of Bannorte, Giammarco Vela, Rosanna Covino, Francesco and Valerio Vela, accompanying Sonia Falcone, the artist and creator of AMA Foundation and Cabo Chic AMA Designsby Sonia Falcone, all respecting the sanitation regulations and wearing the obligatory face mask.

During the fashion show, the designs were shown off beautifully by professional models and Cabo society daughters including Eugenie Falcone, daughter of Sonia Falcone, the Artistic Director of the AMA Collection, Giorgia and Nicole Vela, daughters of Giammarco Vela, the owner of the famous restaurant Sunset Monalisa, Renata Erickson, daughter of Ilda Ledesma, the Chair of the event.

Also modelling designs were Vanessa Fukunaga, the owner of Ocean Blue magazine, Elena Alexeeva, Sinjin Licona, Gabriela Gastélum, Diana Alicia Casas, as well as Emily Graham and Andrea González from the USA, amongst others.

The collection AMA Designs by Sonia Falcone, includes designs created by the president of AMA Saving The Oceans Foundation, in her first foray into fashion. One standout style is the caftan, a look which has distinguished this contemporary artist, while other items include dresses, blouses, shorts and a wedding dress, all concocted from 100% natural fabrics such as linen, silk and cotton. These are complimented with a collection of sunhats printed in marine designs inspired by the work of AMA Saving The Oceans Foundation, with purses, accessories and footwear, all hand-painted and stamp-printed as unique pieces.

Cabo Chic Designs also included surprise elements like the “Pets Pulpos” octopus mascots made by crochet knit which some of the models carried in their hands as unique accessories.

This new label’s creative director reflected the symmetry of local marine life in clean designs, subtle forms, variations in sections and sleeves, necklines, skirts and bags, while all the colours stood out as strong as the turquoise tones of the sea.

“I had not planned it, it was something that came to me spontaneously, my creative side needed to express itself, the most surprising thing about it was that this is what Covid-19 gave me, in the midst of confinement my creativity exploded in an unexpected way: considering I had to buy clothes, I started to create very feminine, but also very practical, garments, so I bought cotton and linen fabrics which were also easy to wear and easy to wash. The collection was the surprise of the night because nobody expected all this; what’s more, the jewels by Daniel Espinosa crowned my creations, they made them shine beautifully. It would be incredible to be able to move, as a next step, to jewellery design.

“Both Gregorio Sánchez and Daniel Espinosa told me their wish to collaborate with me in future, which has to do with the fact that I do everything with a lot of love, dedicaton and work. I am really surprised by the way everyone received my creations.

I am also very happy because I have been invited to bring my designs to Lisbon, Portugal, Bolivia and Shanghai”, said Mrs Falcone.

The famous Mexican jewellery designer, Daniel Espinosa confirmed it was a great event. “Sonia’s show was incredible, with pieces that were created and designed spectacularly with the unique taste of this contemporary artist, totally timeless, eternal, elegant, sophisticated, with very vibrant colours, inspired by the tones of Baja.

“Meanwhile Gregorio’s designs made his show super current, filled with prints, with an incredible manufacture noting his experience of years doing this work.

“Happy to participate once more here in Los Cabos, with the Foundation, with Sonia, with Gregorio, with Ilda Ledesma, with this fabulous group of people who concern themselves with this wonderful place”, said Daniel Espinosa, the expert in jewellery design, whose origins in this art form are come from his work in the silversmith tradition from Taxco, Guerrero.

From his side, Mexico’s most important fashion designer today, Gregorio Sánchez declared: “Sonia Falcone’s debut collection is classic and fluid, created masterfully, with these silhouettes which can be visualised in the world’s most glamorous resort destinations. In this collection we could see materials like linens, gauzes, cotton, silks and textiles in vibrant colours with a fresh and sexy touch that evokes the oceans and the desert of Cabos.

“Caftans and camisoles stood out which transported us to marvellous places. The glamourous touch of the collection was her line of bags, belts and sunhats,” enthused Gregorio Sánchez.

All the pieces created by Sonia Falcone can be bought in Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Resort. Frederic Vidal, general director of this hotel qualified this collection as timeless and unpretentious.

“From my perspective, AMA Designs by Sonia Falcone is a reflection of the personality of the artist Sonia Falcone, who radiates a lot of sophistication and elegance; it is a timeless collection which will always work in beach places, like San Lucas.

“Mrs Falcone’s great success is her vision, now that since Covid 19 people are looking for garments like these, which can also keep being worn, in the years to come”, added Frederic Vidal, also vice-president of Rosewood Resorts.

Everything raised from this collection, as well as the sale of the dresses donated by Wendy Harrison and the clutch from Tyler Ellis will go to the marine conservation and social programs of AMA Saving The Oceans Foundation, which also includes thecreation of the AMA Marine Life Museum and supports the San Jose Down Syndrome Center.

“The most important thing for me in this first edition of Cabo Chic AMA Designs by Sonia Falcone, is that we created a source of employment for 8 women who had been left completely unemployed. The same goes for some artisans who painted the hats by hand, printing my creations impeccably under my supervision and artistic direction. Without any doubt, this is the first in a great social campaign to sustain many others left unemployed by the crisis of these last few months”, said the President of AMA Saving The Oceans.
